Townsville Folk Festival
Community music with deep roots in this city. We contribute production knowledge, crew pathways and an inclusive platform for visiting and local players.
Programs
The programs are live and local. Mentorship and the Digital Lab sit across all of them.

Electronic and gathering culture, including Rebound Gathering — a slower, smaller reconnection on Nywaigi Country at Mungalla Station, developed with Rootbound. Not every edition is a full festival. The through-line is care, land and sound.
Clouds over Flinders Street. NIMBUS reimagines known Townsville rooms — from HeyDays Café onward — as a cluster of music, dance, theatre, visual art and installation. More than twenty artists have shared a single night. Diffraction has powered sound and collaborated on the experiment.
Recreation programming that sits in the same organisation as the arts work: community first.
Shared infrastructure
We purchase and store production equipment so North Queensland arts and community organisations do not each have to buy the same rig. Hire is approved by Diffraction Collective board executives. Typical use includes PA, lighting support and event infrastructure for indoor and outdoor work.
If your organisation needs kit, write to support@diffractioncollective.org with dates, venue and what you are presenting.
Mentorship
Training is for emerging artists, culture workers and volunteers. It covers live production manners — load-in, cueing, care of rooms and of audiences — and now the digital stack taught in the Digital Lab. Volunteers are not free labour; they are people we intend to leave more capable than we found them.
