Sound, image and the skills to carry both into the digital world.

Diffraction Collective is an inclusive arts platform connecting artists from North Queensland, across Australia and abroad. We produce live work — and we now teach the digital craft that lets people publish, host and earn from that work.

Who we are

A collective with a long memory for rooms, rigs and people.

Since 31 December 2011 we have brought together the creative community of North Queensland to make a fresh mix of visual and sound art. Multi-format collaborations — music, projections, mapping, visual art, graffiti and sculpture — sit alongside professional production of indoor and outdoor community events.

We work with First Nations communities, families, young people and older people, LGBTIQA+ communities, people with disability, culturally diverse and regional residents — anyone building a creative practice in this part of the country.

Two currents

Live culture, and the tools to keep it moving after the lights come up.

The rooms have not gone away. What has changed is the expectation that artists, culture workers and community members can also edit, publish, host and get paid online. We are building that second current without dropping the first.

All programs

Digital era

Teaching the stack that turns a set, a mural or a film into income.

Workshops cover practical AI for work and career, digital arts, basic video and image editing, content creation, vlogging and uploading, basic website making and deployment, introductory web app development, and hosting your own work. The point is not novelty. The point is a living.

We also watch digital grants and nonprofit software deals — Canva, Adobe, Microsoft, ElevenLabs, Goodstack and others — so beneficiaries and the organisation can use tools that used to sit behind a paywall.
